As you inferred from the URL, this blog is dedicated to Ron Paul, Republican contender for the party’s endorsement for President. This blog’s author, David Armor, enjoys many different activities, including strategy games, reading textbooks, making hummus and sushi, and blogging when he finds the time. Ron Paul, however, is much more interesting. Rather than a droll attempt to explain Ron Paul to you, I will emulate nearly exactly his campaign site’s “About Ron” page right here:
Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535” on Capitol Hill.
Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.
While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.
During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.
Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.
Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another colleague observed, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:

I didn’t get a chance to dig deeper, but are these numbers based on all contributions or only those over $200?
As a naval officer, it is disturbing to me that many in our great nation seem to favor candidates who are so eager to sacrifice individual liberties for “The Common Good.” I have sworn an oath to support and defend The Constitution of the United States, against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. That compels me to speak out against candidates who would treat our founding documents with disdain. That is precisely why I support Ron Paul.

This is one former US Army veteran who supports Paul. I came off active duty and went into the National Guard at a later date. I volunteered for Desert Shield in September, 1990. Later on after this was all over I found out about Amb. April Galaspie telling Saddam that the US wasn’t interested in their complaint with Kuwait over their slant drilling into Iraq’s Rumalia oil field. This whole war could have been avoided by one phone call by Geo. H. W. Bush. I now know why that call wasn’t made.
I resent my patriotism being abused by the likes of the Bushes and Clinton for objectives that have nothing to do with America. I’m for Ron Paul because I don’t want anyone else’s patriotism be misused in this foul manner. I have too much respect for what servicemembers have to do and I think politicians should do the same instead of paying lipservice to it while looking for a way to abuse noble sentiments.

Of course they like Ron Paul, he has the traditional, conservative position. He wants a strong defense, but doesn’t want to send our troops into every military situation.

Speaking as a veteran of the Marine Corps, I would point out that any candidate that takes a strong constitutional stand will get the vote, and in this case the funds, from many of our men and women in the military. It happens to be that Ron Paul is that candidate.

Just another indication that Ron Paul’s support is not just fringe internet geeks. Ron Paul deserves to be President because he’s the only one that has shown he understands that the only way to keep America great is to protect the rule of Law. And the ultimate rule of law for the USA is the contract between its people and its govermentment – the US Constitution.
We support our troops by supporting Ron Paul.

Too bad this isn’t accurate. It doesn’t reflect those who listed US Government or Department of Defense as their employer which is the standard way to list if you are a member of the military. If this were corrected for those listings, the data would look much different.
This is no surprise to me. I already knew the support Ron Paul has among the military. I am a little surprised it was so overwhelmingly Pro-Paul, but not completely.
Why Dr Ron Paul?
• He has never voted to raise taxes.
• He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.

• He has never voted to raise congressional pay.

• He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
• He voted against the Patriot Act.

This is exciting news if true. There are some inaccuracies — such as Hunter missing $100 from USAF.
This needs to be re-checked before we trumpet it too loudly.
You ask the question: “Does the military favor Paul and McCain because they were military, or do Ron Paul and John McCain have a favorable set of values for military servicemen and women because they themselves have served?”
I have known many a former service persons over my life, and frankly it wouldn’t surprise me if all of them were to tell me they would support a former soldier over non-soldier on just that fact alone, regardless of other failings, etc. Most americans make important value judgements based on similar critera, while more relevant things flike fiscal responsiblity, respect for the constitutiton, etc. mean little. If these are “values,” then are pretty shallow.
To suggest that Dr. Paul and John McCain share any common values is nothing short of insulting to Dr. Paul. It is only slightly less insulting to insinuate that Dr. Paul’s values on defense and the military were a result of his service. Dr Paul certainly did not get his attitude about non-interventionism from the military Nor did he come out of the military with the ridiculous belief that soldiers and a standing military are what protect our freedoms and our liberties. Like those of us who have never served, he realizes that the military is necessary to defend the soil of this country, but that adventurism abroad and the senseless killings of innocents does nothing for the cause of freedom. More importantly he correctly recognizes that foreign adventurism, a large and overreaching standing military, and a poorly educated citizenry that blindly follows its leaders are the greatest threats to and the classic destroyers of liberty. Sadly Mr. McCain’s values were forever impacted by the torture he was forced to endure at the hands of an enemy we never should have been fighting. His continued support of Bush and his policies only shows that he learned absolutely nothing from his time in Viet Nam. Lumping Dr. Paul’s supporters in with McCain’s supporters as some single-minded group is also an inappropriate statement to make about these two groups.
I truly hope that a large segment of the military continues to show its support for Dr. Paul. They are clearly the greatest victims of the neo-conservative mindset. Until they too awaken to realize that eternal vigilance, diplomacy, and non-intervention are the keys to protecting true american freedom, we are all doomed to enslavement by our government. The only way the Ron Paul revolution will succeed is if every segment of society regains the knowledge that was lost.
This just goes to show that while the current front runners have the lead in fund raising due to very wealthy contributors and donating to their own campaigns, which the mass media portrays as public support, the average American, who cannot afford to max out their campaign contributions, are flocking to Ron Paul. It is no surprise that those who would be most affected by offensive military actions against Iran are supporting the lone candidate to speak out against such a policy.
Ron Paul for ’08!
I’m an AF vet, and donated a bunch of $ to Ron Paul! I have been in the AF for 17 years. I joined to DEFEND my country, but did everything but that. Undeclared wars in Somalia, Bosnia, and Iraq that had nothing to do with defending our country. Ron Paul has my $ and vote since he understands that the military is for DEFENSE.
This is reminiscent of how Ron Paul supposedly won the Republican Fox News debate based on the obviously artificially inflated text polling results.
How difficult would it be for George Soros or any other number of left-wing kooks to make donations in the name of a service member in yet another asinine attempt to demoralize conservatives? Further, it would be in the left’s interest to bolster Ron Paul because they might like for him to be the Ralph Nader of the right. If that’s the case, it is wishful yet futile thinking.
I would like to see the Democratic candidates added to this, I have a feeling Ron Paul would lose the lead.

As a Vietnam veteran and retired Navy Supply Corps Commander, I am an ardent supporter of Dr. Paul. And yes, I contributed.
I’m glad to see that Ron Paul is getting some support not only from the men and women of the military, but also from people in the blogosphere. Ron reminds me of my Grandfather, who I trust, but I’m not that naive to support someone solely based on that. I think that what it boils down to is the fact that the brave men and women of our armed forces have taken an oath to protect the freedoms of our country, and are willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect ours, but that said they want to make sure that their leader values their lives and will not just send them all over the place without good reason. At the present moment, Ron Paul is the only one who is adamant about his stance on this position, and I think that is commendable.
I don’t think he’s got a chance in hell, but I sure do hope he does better than Hellery.
Ron Paul does have a chance in hell if all the people that believed in his message would stop discrediting him just because he isn’t a media darling. This guy can win, let’s implement some democracy, and stop letting our process be controlled by millionaire kingmakers and big shots. Vote Ron Paul

I am in the military and this is why I think he is becoming popular. He seems to have little interest in furthering his own ego; he does what he thinks needs to be done regardless of how it makes him look. That is the military way. Most of us do not have cushy jobs. we work our asses off for a fixed amount of money every month. We do what needs to be done because it needs to be done not for personal gain. Yes it is true that there are a lot of people that get by without doing much work. They get payed the same as us. Those people are the people that we despise. The hardworking military man (about 80% of us) want people that have the same mentality: the job is more important then anything else.
This is a meaningless statistic. It is illegal for Active Duty military members to contribute to a specific politician. People might want to consider that fact. It is a smart rule…our military should remain apolitical while serving.

I have to question these results and I don’t think this table in any empirical way reflects the political makeup of the military. I served in the Army at the height of the Reagan era and from my own experience there were many non-GOP types, certainly far more than this table suggests.
There is far too little here to go on in the way of useful data.

The one thing that I still keep hearing though is the fact that Ron Paul was / is a Libertarian. All the polls in the world may not be able to overcome that.

re #50 by anne nonymus. Oh no that is not true. It is illegal for commanders to order someone to support a particular candidate or for the Army or any governmment agency to use employees in a campaign for political office.
Our soldiers are citizens and there is NO LAW that says they can not as individuals support or contribute to a candidate.

Just back from 18 months in the Mideast working with the troops(producing Training programs). I am not Military, but have the deepest respect and love for them, especially because of what I just saw and went through. Given the Neocons Iron Claw control, I am tending to stay away from anything that even stinks of Republican. But if these guys think Ron Paul is the Man,That is enough for me to open my eyes and take a good, long, hard look. I truly wish he was an independent though!

Well, I guess if you had your mission compromised and assaulted on all sides by all people who were supposed to be behind you, you would be grateful to find someone who wanted to get you out of your perceived “quagmire” as well.
Ron Paul may be good on a lot of things, but he’s delusional if he thinks that “Bush lied, kids died” which is pretty much what his website states. He’s also delusional if he thinks that it’s more dangerous there now than it was before we went in. Here’s a thought for those of you that support him:
He says that Washington and Jefferson warned us against getting involved in the affairs of other nations, however, has he also considered what Washington and Jefferson did for freedom? They took a safe place, their own home, and were willing to make it dangerous just to be free. The Iraqi people are free today because we went to war against Saddam Hussein and have not backed down against the terrorists in Iraq. Would you rather be peaceful and in chains, or fighting to be free?
Me, I’ll take fighting to be free, and most Iraqis have demonstrated that they will too.

Is this in real total dollars? If so this is barely a statistical wart on the elephant that is campaign finance. Seriously, you can’t make any conclusions based on $22,140 total combined “military” donations out of the tens of millions that are raised.
This seems to be a huge red herring and a fairly blatant attempt at cherry picking intelligence…
It is real total dollars. And I can make conclusions about military donations. The conclusion I make is that more Ron Paul gets more military donations than the other candidates.
I’m not saying that guarantees victory (although see one of my upcoming posts about how military donations are a good predictor of Presidential nomination and eventual victory…), I’m saying Ron Paul is better liked by the military than Rudy McRomney.

I am a vet, who served with the 82ND, my unit just deployed I am in contact with them and they are doing their job with enthusiasm and professionalism. I support Ron Paul enthusiastically. Those who would use the honor of the U.S. Armed Forces for their own personal selfish political/finacial ambitions will find their days are numbered.
We are retired Navy and support Ron Paul and no other!
Ron Paul supports the constitution unlike the rest of our

Ron Paul’s message is beautiful and simple, Restore states rights and take away the power of the Federal Government which everyday reminds us of the tyrannical power that we flew from not too long ago, the king of England. Do you believe that Same Sex Marriage should be legal? Do you believe in the Decriminalization of Marijuana? Well lets say you do and both things are illegal in lets say, North Dakota which is the state you currently reside, and those two laws are legal in South Dakota. Well you can happily and freely pick up your bags and move to South Dakota where you can enjoy those freedoms. 50 states United as Americans peacefully sharing their differences in a prosperous, intelligent, and strong nation that all countries around the world wish to model themselves after. That is the real melting pot that has been the envy of the entire world since our country came to be. That is what Ron Paul is trying to achieve and you know what, its something we should all want to be apart of.
How long can the mainstream media keep a lid on Dr Paul’s overwhelming public support. He’s so genuine in his answers he comes across as a moral human being, not a politician. I think this is just the beginning for Ron Paul. Should he fail to win the presidency I’m sure he will go down kicking and screaming and bringing the real issues to the debate.
I say this with all seriousness. The country will probably disintegrate and being carved up the Chinese if Ron Paul does not win. It will take time, but we are on the road to perdition.
America needs Ron Paul more than ever, and everyone who supports Ron Paul loves him as he is the closest thing to family we have ever seen in government.
Ron Paul, for what is just, what is right, and what is our Nation’s root modus, the Constitution and Freedom and Liberty for All.
A sense of duty is what causes most Americans to join the armed forces. Once he is there on the ground, at the front, he gets an education in reality. When the few whom are willing to spend some of their low pay income on a campaign contribution to the Anti War true republican, it means a lot. Support the troops, vote for Ron Paul.
No one knows more about the war than those that are actually fighting it. They have little recourse if they disagree. Making a campaign contribution may be one of their only options to communicate to us here in the homeland.

Ron Paul supporters and opponents alike – you should all read up on Dr. Paul’s views, because there is so much political “mud” flying that it’s no longer logical discussion of issues.
One really good place to find credible information is the new site, “The Republican Evaluator.” The guy there is doing an analysis of each of the Republican Candidates, and he started with Ron Paul (more candidates to come soon). From what I read, he does a really good job of supporting every bit of his analysis, complete with quotes from Ron Paul and references.
If nothing else, take the time to read the short section on Ron Paul and Abortion – very powerful stuff!

I love how #50 and #6 and some others are just so delusional! It’s truly amazing to me how they think that lies and ad hominem attacks are equal to sound logical discussion. Ron Paul would abolish the Military-Industrial Complex, and stop large companies and wealthy CEOs from further filling their pockets up with taxpayer money at the expense of U.S. servicemembers’ lives. Ron Paul has never said that the military should be abolished — he has affirmed that the military exists *for national defense* and is essential.
Ron Paul served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon. It would be very odd for him to abolish the military he served in.

The military is not as dumb as those currently in power or grappling for power think they are. Their friends and families support their oath to support and defend THE CONSTITUTION as well, which is not “just a G-D piece of paper” as George Bush said. Our veterans saw how wrong it was to go in as “UN Peacekeeping” forces in Bosnia and other places… a farce. And now they choose Ron Paul.

In spite of the nomination process ending its final days I would like to say that support for Paul is still strong, and anyone who feels that Paul is right should NOT go and start lobbying for McCain. Instead, stick with him to the end so that the support for Paul will be known, and that we should be so lucky as to perhaps begin change…
It amazes me how many people are still buying this myth. In Bell County, TX, which arguably has the highest percentage of US Military active duty and retirees, being home to the largest military base in the world, Ron Paul got 4.4% of the vote.
That’s in RP’s home state.
While contributions made are one way to calculate support, votes are another way to calculate it.

John McCain is clearly focused on one thing and one thing only – WAR. He lives for it, he loves it, he’s obsessed by it, it is his entire identity. He is loyal to his big corporate backers and his backers make a killing off of war, war and more war.

After 2004 it became apparent to me what I had been trying to forget after the 2000 election, that much of America is just not paying attention. It would be foolish to assume that this time around they have turned off “American Idol” and are really going to think this one through. McCain appeals to fear coupled with Amerian imperial arrogance. McCain, like Bush before him, can win. We cannot let that happen.
Unfortunately Hilary Clinton represents the exact same special interests that McCain does. They should run on the same ticket. Actually, come to think of it I take that back. Hilary Clinton represents Hilary Clinton. McCain represents those corporate interests that can most benefit by America expanding it’s empire through military aggression.
There is only one serious contender who is sane and that is Ron Paul. He did not support the invasioin of Iraq. He did not support NAFTA, amnesty for illegal aliens and he did not suppor the Patriot Act. He has consistently kept his campaign promises for each of the 10 terms he has served in the United States Congress.
Barack Obama will likely be our next President. I feel he is a good man and I would take him over McCain any day. However, this is not a Socialist country. We need to get back to the values of the Founding Fathers and the ideas put forth in the Constitution. The Ron Paul phenomenon is the beginning of a much larger and far-reaching revolution in America.
John McCain is a huge step in the wrong direction. He and his Neo-Con allies have hijacked the country and the time has come for us to take it back.
Someone who speaks in straight talk doesn’t have to keep reminding you that it’s straight talk. They just speak the truth.
As for me, I’m voting for Ron Paul.
